It appears that Phineas will be the other main character in the book, along with Gene. We find out that Phineas is very athletic and is the complete opposite of Gene, but they still get along well.
The dramatic note that ends chapter 2 is that Gene almost fell out of the tree but Finny stopped and saved him from falling.
I think that Gene puts on Finny's pink shirt because he wants to feel like Finny and have what he has, the ability to have people like him all the time.
Finny at first does suspect that Gene had something to do with his fall but then he gets rid of that thought because he feels that Gene would never do that to him.
